"A DAY LATE AND A DOLLAR SHORT"

Unity Theatre Ensemble presented a stage adaptation of Terry McMillan's newest novel, A Day Late and A Dollar Short for six performances only, April 24, 25, 26, and 27, 2003. According to Ralph Greene, Artistic Director of the Ensemble, McMillan's newest novel has been described as " a fast read with hilarious momentsa novel about the love and bond between adult family members as opposed to between sistah friends and between men and women. It is also about family falling apart, and family coming back together. As such, this novel is a testament to the love between parents and their children, brothers and sisters. It is through the literary device of the talk story, we explore the ups and downs of the "the Price Family.

An after-show discussion took place immediately following the Sunday matinee facilitated by Professor Eugene Redmond, of the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville English department.

The cast included: Mardra Y. Thomas (Viola), Eric Toler (Cecil), Erica Sutherlin (Paris), Cinnamon Bryant (Charlotte), Karl Clark (Lewis), LaWanda Younge (Janelle), Julie George Carlson (Loretta) and Natasha Clark (Shanice). Set designed by Bill Murphy, costumes by Bonnie M. Harmon, lights by Mark Schilling and sound by Willie Obermoeller.
